HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT EMDR CONSULTING?

Whether you are an individual seeking EMDR treatment or a clinician considering becoming trained in EMDR, there are many questions that are typically asked.

What are your COVID-19 protocols for in-person trainings?

We follow CDC, state, and city guidelines as well as the protocols of the training venue. Currently, the CDC guidelines recommend:

    • To reduce the risk of being infected with the Delta variant and possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public spaces if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission.
  • For unvaccinated folks (or not fully vaccinated):
    • If you are not fully vaccinated and aged 2 or older, you should wear a mask in indoor public places.

As your training date approaches, please monitor the following symptoms:
New runny nose or nasal congestion
New sore throat
New loss of taste or smell
New rash on fingers or toes
New difficulty breathing
New cough
Unusual fatigue
Fever above 100.0F or feeling feverish
Vomiting or diarrhea

If you suspect you have COVID-19, please contact registrations@emdrconsulting.com to reschedule, and we will transfer your registration to another training or issue a refund.

Do you provide lunch at the in-person trainings?

No; however, a light continental breakfast is typically provided. Lunch is on your own.

We try to arrange group lodging rates; however, these are available on a site-by-site basis. Check the specific training for details.

How do I login to my virtual training?

The trainer will send a welcome email to the participants the week of the training with the Zoom invite. Please keep an eye on your spam/junk folders. Trainer contact information is available on our Training Staff page.

When registering, be sure to provide a personal email address (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL) instead of a work or agency email (e.g., @VA.gov). Organizational, governmental, and/or company-based email accounts might have security settings that block Zoom invites to the virtual training.

Do I need to print the training materials off of the Participant's Page for my training?

In-person

Participants will receive hard copies of the materials on-site at the training location.

Virtual

Training materials (manual, worksheets, etc.) will be sent to virtual training participants via FedEx or UPS to the address provided on the registration form. These materials will arrive the week of the training. We do not ship outside of the United States and Canada.

We recommend downloading and reviewing materials before beginning the actual training. They are accessible from your account on the Participant’s Page.

  • The daily schedule and itinerary are listed on each training’s event page. Check the specific training for further details.
Do you offer refresher courses?

We offer a reduced refresher fee option on all of our in-person EMDR trainings.

However, we do not provide a separate refresher course because we consider our course to be more of a “reboot” than a refresher in that our approach takes into account how EMDR has evolved from Shapiro’s original conception (1995).

Therefore, to fully learn EMDR Consulting’s approach in this evolution, it is necessary to take our entire training — at a reduced price.

What is your refresher course?

Our “reboot” course is our basic training: “Integrating EMDR into your Clinical Practice.” EMDR Consulting’s course introduces concepts and techniques not originally taught in most basic training courses, thus, taking our entire course ‘reboots’ the EMDR clinician’s EMDR conceptualization and skills.

Do you offer continuing education credit for participants who attend the course as a refresher?

Yes. For further details, view the continuing education section on the specific training’s event page.

What is the refresher registration fee?

In-person

$1245.00 USD* – 2-Part or 5-Day Intensive
$1045.00 USD* – 2-Part or 5-Day Intensive for Non-Profit, Community Mental Health, Interns/Students, Veterans, and Active-Duty Military

*Refresher registration fees also include 5-month payment plan options. Consultation is not included in the refresher fee.

Is consultation included in the refresher fee?

No, consultation is not included in the refresher training fee. However, clinicians may purchase basic training group consultation hours in 5-hour blocks at $25 per hour; i.e., $125. This purchase can be made through EMDR Consulting’s administrative billing office.

If I purchase refresher basic training consultation hours, will they apply towards certification?

No, refresher basic training consultation hours do not apply towards certification.

Do I start consultation at the EMDR training?

No, consultation starts after you have received some EMDR portion of your training (after Part 1 of the 2-Part training or after completing the entire five days of the 5-Day Intensive training).

What is the deadline to complete the EMDR training course and the 10 hours of group consultation?

Participants must complete the entire EMDR training course, which includes 10 hours of group consultation, within 12 months (1 year) from their initial start date.

Will I be certified after completing the EMDR training course?

No. Once you have completed an EMDR Training, you are considered an EMDR trained clinician, and you will receive a certificate of course completion.

EMDRIA Certification in EMDR requires additional levels of continuing education and consultation in EMDR and is a separate process that begins after you have received your basic training certificate of course completion.

Do I have to be certified to practice EMDR?
  • No. Completing at least Part 1 or the entire five days of the 5-Day Intensive EMDR training course qualifies you professionally, ethically, and within your standards of practice to begin using EMDR with your clinical caseload.
  • Certification is optional and may be pursued any time after you have completed the EMDR basic training course.
  • Certification fees are separate and apart from any basic training fees and are not part of EMDR Consulting’s training program.
  • For more information about certification, please read EMDRIA’s current certification criteria and FAQ.
How do I become certified in EMDR?

To become certified, one must:

  • Be fully trained in an EMDRIA Approved EMDR training course and have received a certificate of course completion
  • Be licensed or certified in their profession with a minimum of two years’ experience in their field
  • Complete an additional 20 hours of consultation in EMDR by an EMDRIA Approved Consultant (we recommend using an Approved Consultant that is part of EMDR Consulting’s training staff)
  • Conduct a minimum of 50 clinical sessions with at least 25 different clients in which EMDR is utilized
  • Complete 12 hours of continuing education in EMDR to apply and every two years to maintain an active certification status

Please visit emdria.org for more information about certification.

Do EMDR Training Course group consultation hours apply toward certification?

No. Much like your undergraduate course is separate and apart from your graduate course, EMDR basic training is separate and apart from certification.

What is group consultation in EMDR?

Group consultation includes at least two consultees in a formalized setting which is led by a consultant in a structured group format. All consultees in the group are expected to participate and be prepared to bring their own EMDR case presentation material content for discussion. As a general guideline, groups should allow a ratio of 15 minutes per individual participant.

Do I need to have active cases to attend consultation?

While consultation may include a wide variety of topics, EMDRIA requires some case presentations during your 10 hours of consultation.

How many clinicians are present in a group consultation session?

Group consultation size for basic training cannot exceed 10 consultees (1:10). Therefore, we are required to follow EMDRIA’s guidelines:

  • 1 hour group consultation: maximum of 4 participants
  • 1.5 hour group consultation: maximum of 6 participants
  • 2.0 hours of group consultation: maximum of 8 participants
  • 2.5 hours of group consultation: maximum of 10 participants

When group time is not equally divided among consultees, each participant is expected to present case material so that all consultees in the group both demonstrate and observe their peer’s demonstration of standard EMDR therapy.

Do I receive consultation during the EMDR training?

No, consultation starts after you have received some EMDR portion of your training (after Part 1 of the 2-Part training or after completing the entire five days of the 5-Day Intensive training).

When can I start scheduling my consultation?

We recommend scheduling after attending Part 1 or after completing the 5-Day Intensive.

What if I take the 5-day intensive? How does consultation work then?

You may start your consultation after you have completed all five days of training.

How do I schedule my consultation hours?

In order to schedule your consultation sessions, you may:

  • Contact your training team directly for their consultation schedules
  • Access schedules by clicking on the consultation tab on your individual account page
How frequently do I need to schedule consultation?

Schedule and space out your consultation sessions to fit your clinical needs. The only requirement is to complete the 10 hours within the 12-month deadline.

Does EMDR Consulting have any consultation requirements such as how many hours need to be completed between Parts 1 and 2?

No. We believe that you are responsible for your own learning at the pace that best suits your needs. Having said that, we do suggest having a couple of consultation sessions between Part 1 and Part 2 so you can get additional feedback/clarification regarding how you can integrate EMDR into your clinical practice and how to best to use it with your existing clients.

Do I have to take all my hours of consultation with EMDR Consulting’s consultants?

Yes, EMDR Consulting is responsible for your learning of EMDR and how to integrate it into your clinical practice. Our training approach includes many updated techniques and approaches that others do not. Thus, for the consistency of your learning and to meet EMDRIA requirements, we require that you complete all of your basic training consultation (10 hours) with EMDR Consulting’s consultants.

Do I have to take all my consultation hours with the team that trained me?

No, you can work with any EMDR Consulting consultant who has group consultation scheduled on SignUp Genius.

Do I have to take all my consultation hours with the same consultant?

No. We actually suggest that you receive consultation from several EMDR Consulting consultants as each will have their own strengths and ways of helping you integrate EMDR into your clinical practice.

How do I record my consultation hours?

You are responsible for keeping track of your 10 hours of group consultation on your consultation sign-off sheet located in the back of the manual.

Regardless of how the consultation is conducted, write the date, length, and name of the consultant on your consultation sign-off sheet.

Do group consultation sessions need to be in-person?

No. In fact, most of our consultation is over the phone or by virtual conference call.

When consultation calls are by phone, participants are responsible for any long distance/toll call charges. Any Canadian or International participants, please check your carrier as there may be reduced calling options.

Will I get continuing education credit for the 10 group consultation hours?

No, the consultation component of the EMDR training course is not eligible for continuing education credit.

Are the fees for consultation included in the training course fee?

Yes, the registration fee includes the 10 hours of group consultation.

Out of EMDR Consulting’s registration fee, how much is designated for consultation?

$250 ($25 per group consultation hour) of your registration fee is set aside to cover your required 10 hours of basic training group consultation.

Do all EMDR Consulting’s consultants adhere to that fee?

Yes, all of EMDR Consulting’s consultants have agreed to this fee.

Will I be billed if I complete more than 10 hours of group consultation?

If you exceed 10 hours, you will be charged $25 for every hour that goes over the allotted 10 hours included with your registration fee (note: refresher fees do not include consultation).

What if I want an individual one-on-one consultation session? Will that cost extra?

Yes. For example, if you schedule a 1-hour one-on-one, then 1 hour of your group consultation fee ($25) can be applied toward the consultant’s total hourly fee. You are responsible for paying the consultant the difference out-of-pocket. It is up to you and the consultant to negotiate that hourly consultation fee.

What if I sign up for a group consultation session and I end up being the only one on the call?

Your pre-paid consultation account will only be charged the calculated $25 per hour group rate.

What is the cancellation policy for consultation sessions?

The cancellation policy is up to the individual consultant. Please contact them directly.

What if I forget/no-show to my scheduled consultation session? Will I be billed?

Yes, you may. The consultant may bill you for your missed session. Your no-show will not be deducted from your pre-paid consultation fees. You will be responsible for paying those out-of-pocket.

Certificates of course completion will not be issued until all out-standing fees have been paid.

What if the consultant is a no-show to the consultation session? Will I be billed?

We certainly apologize for the oversight, and we encourage you and others on the call to use the time for peer support. You will not be billed.

What is the deadline to complete the EMDR training course and the 10 hours of group consultation?

Participants must complete the entire EMDR training course, which includes 10 hours of group consultation, within 12 months (1 year) from their initial start date.

What if I lost or can't find my consultation sign-off sheet?

You can download the consultation sign-off sheet from the participant’s page, which is accessible through your individual account page.

How do I submit my consultation sign-off sheet?

Email your completed consultation sign-off sheet to consultation@emdrconsulting.com or fax it to 724-957-9086.

Do the EMDR Training Course consultation hours apply toward certification?

No. Much like your undergraduate course is separate and apart from your graduate course, EMDR basic training is separate and apart from certification.
