Course Description

Critical Incident Desensitization Protocol (CIDP) includes interventions designed to be used in the aftermath of a crisis, such as natural disasters, accidents, assaults, or other stressful events. These interventions aim to reduce distress and alleviate symptoms associated with these experiences. It's important to note that CIDP is not therapy; rather, it serves as a form of "psychological first aid." By utilizing eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation (BLS), CIDP can help decrease the intensity and vividness of distressing incidents, leading to an immediate reduction in the impact of trauma or overwhelming events. Studies have shown that this immediate desensitization of traumatic experiences can lower the likelihood of developing PTSD. CIDP consists of two distinct protocols: 1) Critical Incident Desensitization (CID), and 2) Acute Traumatic Incident Protocol (A-TIP). In this 4-hour training, both protocols will be discussed in detail, along with opportunities to participate in demonstrations.

Workshop Objectives: After completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the neurobiology of trauma
  • Understand the rational for the CID Protocol
  • Demonstrate the use of CID and A-TIP
